Raising the bar in onboarding


Our goal was to raise the bar in onboarding. To create an outstanding experience for all new employees in every country across the world. To create a streamlined, digital, personalised approach to help embed new people into the culture, vision and values. One that prepared them for work and encouraged conversation with their line manager, buddy and peers. Join Aviva has reduced dropout rates, increased employee engagement and retention, and significantly reduced onboarding admin and associated costs across the globe. The transformation also won a number of industry awards for onboarding strategy and employee engagement.
 


2. Getting Started


A cross functional global approach


Our global onboarding transformation kicked off with assembling a cross functional global programme team and conducting external benchmarking and focus groups to define best practice, involving 18 different global organisations. We followed up with surveys and internal focus groups with new hires, line managers, HR & L&D from all Aviva countries around the world, aimed at giving us an understanding of current onboarding practices, challenges and opportunities. This approach enabled us to define our vision and goals and together we designed the new Aviva onboarding process – one that every new employee would experience, regardless of role, grade or geography.
